I’m getting ready for a trip to Indiana and planning a little grave hunting while I’m there. This is a collection of cemeteries, graves, and other places of interest that I’m going to look for, when I’m in Chicago.

Thornton Township Cemetery

  • 179th Street and Ridge Road in Thornton
  • Roel Van Vuuren (1793-1859) with his wife
  • Grietje Baardwijck (1800)
  • Update January 2023: these graves are reported to be in Homewood Memorial Gardens (map)

Mount Greenwood Cemetery

  • Closed for the evening when we visited – check hours next time!
  • Dirk Van Vuuren (b. 12 Sep 1834, d. 21 Feb 1906) with his wife 
  • Maartje Van Vuuren (b. 25 Apr 1835, d. 1 Aug 1911)

Oak Glen Cemetery

  • Lansing, IL (map)
  • Trientje (Van Vuuren) Hine, d. Nov. 7, 1949 (married to Albert Hine, who remarried to Myndert Knynsberg after Trientje/Kate died)
