Orville was born on February 11, 1917 in Chicago to Richard (31) and Jennie Hine (25). He was the second of five children including my grandfather Kenneth (1912), Evelyn (1921), Richard Jr (1924), and Glenn (1933). On September 15 1941, Orville married Jeanette Marie Douma (19 Apr 1915 – 26 Jun 1999). They had four children, Janet, Orville Jay Jr., Cheryl, and Franklin; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Orville and Jeanette divorced May 24, 1979 and Orville married Gladys Eleanor Gustafson on September 1, 1979. Orville attended the New Brunswick Theological Seminary and was a minister at the First Reformed Church of New Brunswick, New Jersey and the Reformed Church of Saugerties, New York.
I am working on getting a copy of Orville’s obituary. He suffered from Alzheimer’s Disease and passed away in 2000. I have many wonderful memories of time spent with him and Aunt Gladys every Thanksgiving at Glenn and Norma Hine’s farmhouse in Spencer NY. I also remember visiting his “Hine’s Pines” Christmas Tree Farm in Afton, NY.
