Effie’s Half Brother: Earl Rhining

Edward “Earl” Rhining was Effie Henry’s half brother. He was born on February 16, 1887, in Beardstown IL, child of Lewis Rhining and Susan Duncan. At the age of 20 he married Dena Dober (21), daughter of German immigrants, November 29, 1905 in Virginia, Illinois. The couple lived in Arenzville, Illinois when they were married and then moved 15 miles away to Frederick on the other side of Beardstown between 1917 and 1920. They had a son, Russell. The highest level of formal education Earl received was 4th grade and both Earl and his son were coal miners. The 1930 Census shows Earl and Dena living in a home they owned, valued at $1,700 with Russell, his wife Marie, and their two-year-old daughter Betty. Earl died on November 22, 1964, in Frederick at the age of 77.
