This post is dedicated to “Little Mildred” or “Tootie” (Basham) Whalen, a little girl Albert and Effie took in when she was a baby. I remember Grandma talking about her but don’t know the whole story, so if anyone can help fill me in on how and why Tootie came to live with the Henry family, I’d be grateful! Effie’s photo album has lots of photos from when she was an adorable blue eyed, chubby round faced toddler, and there are several photos kicking around from when she was older.
Mildred was born 16 January 1933. Her parents were John and Georgia Basham. She married Edward Whalen and they had two sons, Alan and William. They lived in the Milwaukee Wisconsin area, in the village of Brown Deer. Mildred died Christmas Day 2018, and her obituary reads: “Whalen, Mildred F. (Nee Basham) Age 85 years, of Brown Deer, Tuesday, December 25, 2018. Loving mother of Alan and William (Patricia). Proud grandma of Kristina and Brandon. Further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.”
